A customer noticed the ANSYS Workbench solution appeared to hang when it completed. The solution information showed the last message written before the hang was "ACTIVATE ERROR ESTIMATION CALCULATIONS". It appeared that the error estimation was causing the problem. What's wrong?


There is a known issue which came up with MacAfee's latest version (which we here at ANSYS have installed). Essentially MacAfee is attempting to scan a small solver file while we try to access it too.

The good news is at ANSYS 9.0 they've put some simple coding in to avoid the conflict. In the meantime at 8.1 and earlier the only solution is to disable MacAfee's scanning for the solver working directory. This may not be a viable option for some since they may not have the permission to deactivate virus scanning.
