I have just tried to install CFX-5.7.1 but the installation process insists that I install and use the ANSYS License Manager. However my existing CFX-5 keys are cut for the CFX License Manager. How can I get a working version of CFX-5.7.1? Do I need to have a new license file cut for the ANSYS License Manager?

The installation process for CFX-5.7.1 has been set up to assume that you will use the ANSYS licensing - if we only have to maintain one license manager going forward then that is better for us and our customers. So we are going forward with the ANSYS License Manager in preference to the CFX License Manager. The CFX License Manager has therefore not been supplied on the CFX-5.7.1 installation CD. However CFX-5.7.1 can still use CFX license files so you do not need a new ANSYS license file for CFX-5.7.1; you can continue to use your current CFX license file.

As you have a CFX license file then you should exit from the CFX-5.7.1 installation at the point where it starts to install the licensing software.

If the CFX license daemon (CFXd.exe) is already running on your license server then you need do nothing else at this stage. The CFX-5.7.1 components should all run automatically.

If the CFX license daemon is not running on your license server but the CFX License Manager is still installed there then you should start the CFX license daemon again and then all the CFX-5.7.1 components will run.

If the CFX license daemon is not running on your license server and you have uninstalled the CFX License Manager then you should reinstall the CFX License Manager from the appropriate installation CD of an earlier release of CFX-5 (CFX-5.7 or earlier). If you do not have access to an installation CD of an earlier release of CFX-5 then you can download the latest version of the CFX License Manager from the ANSYS ftp site using the URL ftp.ansys.com/pub/cfx/Updates/CFXDaemonftp.ansys.com/pub/cfx/Updates/CFXDaemon There are two packages there, one that contains the daemon for Windows, and one that contains the daemons for all Linux/Unix platforms. Once installed you can then start the CFX license daemon and all the CFX-5.7.1 components should then run.
