I have an entitlement to CFX-BladeGen and CFX-BladeGenPlus version 4.1 and would now like to use the new ANSYS BladeModeler version 10. How can I do this and do I still get all the functionality that I had with CFX-BladeGen and CFX-BladeGenPlus version 4.1 in the new software.

ANSYS BladeModeler 10 is a new blade geometry creation product that is part of the ANSYS Workbench software suite and is available only on Windows platforms at version 10. ANSYS BladeModeler 10 consists of three components:

+ BladeGen - a re-release of the CFX-BladeGen 4.1 functionality, now integrated into Workbench.

+ DesignModeler - A general-purpose geometry preparation tool which is integrated into Workbench. Primarily used to preapare CAD geometry models for analysis by other Workbench tools.

+ BladeEditor - a software add-in to DesignModleer that provides the geometry link between BladeGen and DesignModeler.

ANSYS BladeModeler 10 replaces CFX-BladeGen and includes the full functionality of CFX-BladeGen 4.1. BladeModeler does NOT replace the BladeGenPlus product. If you are a BladeGenPlus user the existing BladeGenPlus 4.1 will work with BladegenPlus files exported from BladeModeler.

There is a CFX-BladeGen trade-in program in existence to upgrade customers to ANSYS BladeModeler 10 at no extra cost.

BladeGen has been migrated to Workbench so that it can be accessed as an applet. User functionality for BladeGen is nearly identical to CFX-BladeGen 4.1. However it is important to note that:

+ BladeGen in ANSYS BladeModeler 10 uses the ANSYS license Manager and requires an acfx_bldmdlr license key. With an acfx_bldmdlr key the user has access to BladeGen, DesignModeler and BladeEditor; this means that all 3 applications can be running in a single Workbench session and they will only use 1 license. This license sharing ability means that no additional DesignModeler license will be required to use the full functionality of Blademodeler.

+ The BladeGen application can only be run within Workbench.

+ BladeGenPlus has not been included with Blademodeler and therefore the BladeGenPlus analysis icons have been removed from within BladeGen. However BladeGen / BladeGenPlus 4.1 can still be used. Furthermore there is a BladegenPlusexport option in the File > Export menu for this release of BladeGen in Workbench. This export option creates a BG+ file that can be used with CFX-BladeGenPlus 4.1. Note that CFX-BladeGenPlus uses the CFX License Manager; the license features needed for CFX-BladegenPlus are CFX-BLADEGEN-FLOW, CFX-BLADEGEN-PLUS and CFX-BLADEGEN-GRID.
