You can do so by creating a volume (Create/Location/Volume). If you know the x,y,z coordinates of the location you want to investigate, you can create a volume with the option 'sphere' centered on this point, with an appropriate radius. Choosing the method 'Intersection' will show the elements intersecting the surface of the defined sphere. The method 'Below Intersection' will show all the elements within the sphere. The elements are best viewed by colouring the faces, and showing the 'lines' (enabled on the 'render' toggle).
If you want to see the elements on a plane, you can 1. create the plane and 2. create a volume with the option 'from surface', selecting the appropriate plane.
