Which versions of ANSYS software will my license file allow me to run?

ANSYS license files generally fall into two categories. Those that have no expiration and those that have an expiration date. You can distinguish between these types by looking at the "# Products licensed in this file" section of the license file.

Permanent license file:

Your license file contains licensed products with the phrase "No Expiration." In this case, the license file will launch codes released prior to the "TECS through" date. If the license file is not updated after the TECS date you will not be able to use versions released after that date, but you can continue to use previous versions without disruption. Contact ANSYS if you would like to renew your TECS and upgrade to the new release.

Lease license file:

Your license file contains licensed products with the phrase "Lease expiring." In this case, your license is not version-dependent. You can upgrade and launch any versions before the license expire date. The license file will not work after the expire date. Contact ANSYS if you would like to renew your leased license.
