Display issues on Linux with ANSYS Workbench and DesignModeler

Problem Description: When WorkBench launches on Linux and there are GL/GLX error messages there may be a problem with the installed fgl Linux display driver.

This can often be checked with the terminal command `glxinfo`. This command reports the status of the installed GL drivers. If one does not see information on hardware vendor, the GL library supplier etc., then the GL driver is not properly installed. This will prevent Design Modeler and other ANSYS applications from working.

If you are using an AMD/ATI (http://www.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDHomePage.aspx) Graphics card the recommended method to install the proper driver is using YAST. To do so, it is necessary to add the LINUX driver archive from AMD/ATI to the `installation sources` of YAST.

While there are many `HowTo's` on the Internet on how to manually install the ATI LINUX drivers executables/run scripts, the above way is the most promising for minimum installation effort and should be tried first.

Always check after a reboot the `glxinfo` command whether the GL driver is properly set.

NVIDIA Drivers can be downloaded from <a target=_blank href="http://www.nvidia.com">http://www.nvidia.com</a>http://www.nvidia.com Thus far we have not seen any issues with the run-script-based installation of the driver.

ANSYS cannot take any responsibility for finding the appropriate driver on the ATI webpage that matches your hardware. If the wrong driver is selected and installed (even if `glxinfo` reports proper driver setup), this may result both in freezing the Desktop once a program uses the GL functions, and may eventually even damage hardware. So any caution should be taken to select the proper driver, e.g. contacting the hardware vendor and asking for advice.
