Why am I getting "can't open DISPLAY" when using telnet?

Suppose you run your job on a UNIX box and want to postprocess on a PC by remotely logging in, you get an error "can't open display". FIDAP and GAMBIT automatically launch EXCEED to open their GUIs. However when you are on a PC and telnet to a UNIX box, FIDAP or GAMBIT can't open the display on a PC. You need to manually launch EXCEED and then launch FIDAP or GAMBIT in telnet window. |
