Fluent graphics might not display or you receivie a segmentation violation when using Remote Desktop Connection

Launching Fluent from a client machine using Remote Desktop Connection might prevent you from viewing graphics or you receive a segmentation violation when viewing graphics. Remote Desktop Connection and FLUENT Graphics Issues Microsoft's built-in Remote Desktop Connection can be used to log in to a cluster or a server to run FLUENT. However, this is not officially supported and you may encounter graphics issues. Some of the issues reported are segmentation violation errors when displaying Grids or Contours or not seeing any graphics in the display window. There are a couple of things you can try but it is not guaranteed that it will address all of your issues. Upgrade your graphics driver as noted in the posted FAQ entitled Displaying Grids or Contours in FLUENT Produces an Error Message. Follow the instructions EXACTLY especially Step 3. Do this on both the local and the remote machine. Update the Remote Desktop Client software. There has been improved graphics performance with the new Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 client update version 6. You can download the Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 client update from Microsoft Download Center at <a target=_blank href="http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925876">http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925876</a>http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925876 Download the Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 client for the local machine and the remote machine. After you launch Remote Desktop Connection and BEFORE you launch FLUENT add the following flag to the FLUENT startup -driver opengl. For example, at the command line you would type: fluent 3d -driver opengl. (add any other flags as necessary, for example, -t2). The -driver opengl flag will instruct FLUENT to load the opengl driver and the performance will be improved. Check the graphics library you have loaded to verify. After FLUENT is open select the Help menu and then choose Version. On the Graphics Version line it should read, opengl/win.
