Q) Can I export and isosurface from CFX-Post and bring it into ICEM?

A) You can actually use the print option in Post (only having the isosurface in the viewport) and printing to a vrml file. You can then import this geometry type into ICEM CFX.

Q. I have encountered the following error message in a FLOTRAN analysis. What should I do about it?

*** ERROR ***
Coefficient matrix has a negative diagonal.
Probably indicates divergent solution.
VX Node= 1341.

A. The negative diagonal error occurs due to spatial oscillations in the solution associated with the advection method. Most often, this happens near an the Outlet, and in turn means that the outlet region is too close to regions where the flow is undergoing changes.

If it is not possible to change the problem domain, the best thing to do is to use Modified Inertial Relaxation (as per the section on Advection Discretization in the Fluids Analysis Guide). It can be applied to temperature, momentum (as in this case, since the error was reported for VX) and turbulence.

See the FLDA,MIR command. Appropriate values are between 0 and 1. It is best to use as low as possible a number, but using 1.0 should be okay. Try 0.5 and raise it if necessary. Note that you may have to apply this to turbulence as well.

Q. What is the status of the Multi Body Dynamics software at 10.0?
How do you activate the license for it and is there any documentation available?

A. MBD capability is not commercial grade in v10. It will be in v11.
You need to choose the MBD module during install time to enable this feature.
After that, you need to have the beta key ON to access the module.
There is no help documentation available.

Which releases of Redhat Linux are supported on the AMD Opteron platform?

We have tested Redhat AS 3.0 and Redhat AS 4.0. The Workstation versions of Redhat should also work fine.

Is there a suitable boot file for a clean shutdown of the license server?

There is no boot file needed for a clean shutdown. When the system is shutdown, all processes are shutdown accordingly.

Q. Why do I get surface temperatures HOTTER than my radiation source when using radiation in CFX? This seems to happen at the boundary b/w a symmetry plane and an adiabatic boundary.

A. In all likelihood, CFX has simply not converged yet. Radiation is of course highly non-linear. It is best to use as large a physical time step as possible (1.E+5 seconds as opposed to, say, 50 seconds) when solving Conjugate Heat Transfer problems in CFX.

Customer has tested Windows 64-bit on INTEL and AMD processors and it seems that ANSYS runs faster on the Intel Em64T running Windows x64 than it does on an AMD Opteron running Windows x64.

1) Intel Xeon64 3.6Ghz
2) AMD Opteron64 252 (4.6 Ghz)
