Why does license install fail on Windows XP Home OS which has no ethernet card?

If no ethernet card is installed on a system, the ANSYS FLEXlm Manager returns the Volume Disk ID as FLEXlm Host ID. There is no notification, that this is not an ethernet mac address. It has to...

Why are the temperatures obviously incorrect near the centerline
of my axisymmetric radiation analysis in ANSYS 9.0?

There is an error in the way the view factors are calculated near the
centerline. This has been corrected in ANSYS 10.0. [Ref: Defect 30593]

In Release 10.0, why are the modal participation factors different for a model with a doubly symmetric cross-section as opposed to an equivalent model with a slightly non-doubly symmetric cross-section?

Below are two examples of an open box modeled with SHELL elements. In one model, the cross-section is doubly symmetric (i.e., square cross-section). In the other model, the width of...

Why am I getting an error message about a convection surface
referencing an undefined material property? I am switching from a
temperature dependent film coefficient in load step 1 to a constant
value in load step 2 in ANSYS 9.0.

The program is improperly ramping the film coefficient from the
negative integer used as a pointer in load step 1 to the numerical
value specified in load step 2. The...

Why does pasting the following commands into the input window
at ANSYS 9.0 on the PC cause the graphics toolbar to be grayed out?

/clear
/prep7
et,1,42
rect,0,1,0,1
ames,all
fini

After this, the graphics toolbar is grayed out and we could not reactivate it.
If you add a blank line after the /clear the graphics toolbar is active again!

As you noticed this error is caused by the /clear command. It only happens
on the PC. The toolbar is driven by abbreviations in the start.ans file and with
this input the GUI...

I want to mesh a blade passage domain with inlet and outlet regions very close to the blade leading and trailing edges. The mesh lines bend down near the outlet region on the shroud surface. Movin the closest master control point helps a little, but does not solve the above problem.

Why does the topology line in that small region not follow the trend of topology lines of adjacent region?

The topology line "bends" due to the fact that the blade is so close to the outlet, coupled with the node distribution on the inlet/outlet (which the user has no...

Why am I getting non-physical magnetic field results in Workbench 9.0 and 10.0?
I am using a line body to represent the coil.

This is a rare occurrence. Field results in models with conductors modeled as line bodies
can be grossly incorrect when the implied 3D conductor surface passes close to iron...

I've been using BladeGen/BladeGen+ in the past, and have recently upgraded to a BladeModeler and CFX-Flow License. What would be the proper procedure for getting an existing BladeGen design into DesignModeler and setting it up in CFX-Mesh? Workbench Start page gives me a "button" for "Blade Geometry" i.e. BladeGen, but not specifically BladeModeler and there is no reference anywhere to BladeEditor.

The following procedure will walk you through how to launch BladeGen 10.0, import it into DesignModeler, and open the model in CFX-Mesh.

1) Start Wrokbench...

Why are deleted loads reappearing in a multi-frame restart?
I solved 3 Loadsteps. After the second loadstep I deleted some boundary
conditions. I ran the third loadstep completely. Everything looks fine. Then
I do a restart at time 2.5 with the option 'endstep'. After that the deleted
loads are back and I see a different result for this step than before.

The multi-frame restart has trouble with deleted boundary
conditions. This is addressed in the 4th sample input listing of
the Basic Analysis Guide Section 3.10.2. It...

Why does this long transient get slower the longer it runs in ANSYS 8.1?

This is a system-dependent problem caused by multi-point restarts and
increased memory used to read the load history file (file.ldhi). This error is
fixed in ANSYS 9.0 [Ref: ...

Is there any way to plot the input force-deflection curve for Combin39 elements?

The macro (plt39rc) plots the real inputs for a COMBIN39. A sample input that demonstrates
it's use is included too. The macro does not do any data validity checking and ignores...

How can I visualize the direction (forward or backward) of the precessional modes in a rotor dynamic analysis?

In ANSYS 10.0 if you request both real and imaginary mode shapes to be written by the QRDAMP solver
with MODOPT,QRDAMP,Nmodes,FreqB,FreqE,ON, you can animate the whirling motion with the...

Is there a way in ANSYS 9.0 to apply an axial load to a point on an element
and this load keep axial to the section?

Yes. At 9.0 you can use the new element, FOLLW201 to do this.

Why is results evaluation taking 20 hours in Workbench 8.1
for a particular analysis?

Large arrays were created in a command snippet to apply pressure
to the model. The xml retrieval of these arrays is very slow. If the arrays
are deleted at the end of the...

Why can't I solve a harmonic magetic analysis with SOLID117 in ANSYS 8.1?
I could solve it in ANSYS 7.1.

You are running out of memory. Starting in 8.0 we added the ability to keep the
database data in memory during solution. For this model that adds about 150 MB to
the memory...

Why am I getting an incorrect field solution for this air coil in Workbench 9.0?
I created a large enclosure around the coil.

The mesh of the large enclosure becomes more coarse as it moves inward from
the surface. The line body representing the coil is entirely in a single element. It is
possible to...

Why do I get a message the message below in ANSYS 9.0 when I issue the CYCPHASE command?

*** WARNING *** CP= 20.870 TIME= 13:21:17

Phase angle evaluation (CYCPHASE cmd) is valid only for nodal-diameter
solutions greater than 0 and less than N/2 (N = number of sectors in
the full 360 degrees model). Current nodal-diameter is 7.

I have 15 sectors and I am reading the results for ND = 7. 0 < ND = 7 < 7.5

You didn't issued the SET command which is required for CYCPAHSE. An error
trap has been added in ANSYS 10.0 to alert the user to this.

[Ref: Defect 30956]

In a steady state coal combustion calculation it is sometimes useful to be able to set a different Physical Timescale for the mass fractions involved in NOx reactions. In CFX-Pre it is only possible to set a single Physical Timescale value for all mass fraction components.
