I want to perform an AC electromagnetic analysis in which a transmitting ("TX") coil producing harmonically varying source field is physically very small compared to the extent of the surrounding domain. To keep element count down, I wish the mesh at the field source to be as coarse as possible.
I found that SOURC36 used in a coarse SOLID117 mesh resulted in an inaccurate representation of the field source. Explicit modeling of the geometry of the TX coil leads to undesirably high element count. What would you suggest as an alternative?

Do you have an example demonstrating the procedure for calculating the response of a piezo transducer operating under hydrostatic pressure?
ANSWER:
Working files for a prestressed harmonic response analysis are attached to this solution. Seems to work ok, though I'm a little uncertain about the following:
1) Electrodes are electrically open (seperate CP's on VOLT) during static prestress run (hydrostatic pressure applied). Should they be grounded? Unsure. May be a function of operating conditions. Simple changes could be made to the input file to investigate further.
2) Postprocessing: range in voltage in the attached voltage animation increases dramatically w/prestress pressure (I ran several cases). I assume that the actual working voltage, displacements, stresses would be a superposition of those obtained from prestress static run and the subsequent harmonic response results (add a DC bias to the AC response). This has not been done here but is relatively straightforward. |
