In the equation of motion for a particle, Equation 4 in ANSYS CFX-Solver Theory Guide | Particle Transport Theory of the CFX 11.0 documentation, the Left Hand Side (LHS) represents the time rate of change of the particle momentum, the Right Hand Side (RHS) represents the relevant forces modeled. For an evaporating particle, is a (dm/dt)*v term added to the LHS? Does a corresponding source term for the particle mass transfer appear in the continuous phase momentum equation?

In the equation for the particle velocity, the LHS of the momentum equation can be written as d(m*v)/dt; however, there is an extra term v*d(m)/dt that should be added to the RHS (the rate of loss...

1-2 points will give you a 3D density object depending on size and width. The element size within that object will be of designated size. It will expand away from the object using the ratio.

For 3 or more points, it will first expand away from the object using width and size, then away from these layers using the ratio. This is true whether the object is planar or makes up a polyhedral. For polyhedral objects, it doesn't make sense to prescribe a width - the designated size will be inside the polyhedra. If you set width, then you also get that prescribed size so many layers outside the polyhedra.

What causes this error?

This was due to an old Graphics Card/Monitor combination. After replacing with newer components, Workbench ran as expected.

QUESTION:
At ANSYS v11 and earlier, it appears that LDREAD,EHFLU does not read surface heat fluxes from HF emag (HF119/120) as surface loads in a thermal analysis. Is there a workaround?

ANSWER:
The problem appears to exist only when the emag and thermal elements exist on the same side of the surface to which shield conditions were applied in the HF emag model using SFx with the SHLD label. The APDL workaround (see ehflu.mac) used in the model attached to this solution appears to work fine.

Additional background that may be useful:

1) SFLOSS (ETABLE item NMISC,8) is the total surface loss (in Watts for all surfaces experiencing surface loss) for the HF119/120 element.
2) ETABLE item NMISC,9 is the lowest face number flagged with SHLD condition for which nonzero surface loss is calculated.
3) ETABLE item NMISC,10 is the surface heat flux (in W/m^2) on the face number identified by ETABLE item NMISC,9.
4) ETABLE items NMISC,11 and 12 are next highest flagged face number and corresponding surface heat flux in W/m^2.
5) ETABLE items NMISC,13 and 14 are next highest flagged face number and corresponding surface heat flux in W/m^2 after the NMISC,11 face number.
6)Supposean element has only one face with the SHLD flag. If you divide SFLOSS (NMISC,8) by area of the flagged face identified by NMISC,9, you'll get the surface heat flux reported as NMISC,10. I checked this at v11.
7) The attached test model and macro seem to work (total solve time ~2 minutes). The macro writes a command file defining heat fluxes that can be subsequently read into a thermal model when LDREAD,EHFLU does not read in the values (which seems to happen only when HF emag and thermal elements appear on the same side of the boundary flagged with SHLD).
8) I haven't yet checked the MFS for this modeling scenario. If I determine that surface heating is not transferred using MFS, then, until the code is enhanced to account for this case, user

SYMPTOM:
Non-MeTiS methods (eg, user-specified direction) can give poor partitions on structured grids, if the distance of an entire plane of nodes is the same in the specified direction. The partition boundary can be jagged, switching back and forth between two planes. This can lead to excessive overlap and possible robustness problems (particularly with free surface flow).

PROBLEM:
This is due to this potential problem not being thought of during design.

CAD-NEXUS Interface for CATIA can import .Catpart but not .CatProduct files. What is the problem?

.CATProduct files are actually assemblies, all the parts of the assembly must exist in the same directory.

I import a BladeGen file into DesignModeler (DM) and try to create a fillet at the base of each blade. The model is a 360 runner. Some of the fillets are created properly, but at least half of them are imcomplete and there appears to be a hole at the base of the blade where the fillet should have been created. This is confirmed by importing the resulting model into ICEM.

Sometimes fillet creation can fail when the fillet is created from several curves rather than one. If the hub surfaces appears as several sub surfaces in DM, the curve around the base of each...

SYMPTOM:
A case using the Redlich Kwong equation of state may have inaccuracies in phase change predictions, and give differents results to Release 10.0.

PROBLEM:
Various liquid phase saturation properties are being set to values predicted by the raw Redlich Kwong equation of state instead using the more accurate equations or correlations listed in the documentation. The list of inaccurate properties is:
- density (should use the Rackett equation)
- enthalpy (should be offset from the gas value by the latent heat correlation mentioned in the documentation)
- specific heat capacity at constant pressure (should use the the Cp correlation presented in the documentation)
- specific heat capacity at constant volume (should use the Cp correlation presented in the documentation)
- entropy (should be offset from the gas value by -(latent heat)/Tsat(p))

The inaccurate predictions of the raw Redlich Kwong equation of state for liquid phase properties will mainly lead to inaccuracies in phase change predictions when running the equilibrium wetness model (equilibrium phase change) or the thermal phase change model (non-equilibrium
