Class 3 Error

SYMPTOM:
If USER_GETVAR is used to get gradients of non-scalar variables then the results are incorrect.

PROBLEM:
The documentation says that the result of the call to USER_GETVAR takes the form (NGRAD,NLOC,NCOMPT); however, the program actually returns the result as (NGRAD*NCOMPT,NLOC). For scalar variables the gradients

Class 3 Error

SYMPTOM:
When backup, transient or the final results file is written, a run using the expert parameter "rotational offset for post" may have problems in several ways. Symptoms include any of the following.

a) The solver may fail whilst trying to write the results file with the following error:
Error detected by routine DELDAT
CDANAM = ROTOFF
CRESLT = NONE

Current Directory : /FLOW/GEOMETRY

b) The solver fails in the timestep immediately after writing a backup or transient file with errors about mesh quality.

c) There is a large spike in the residuals just after writing a backup or transient file.

d) The expert parameter fails to have any effect.

PROBLEM:
There are several problems.

1) A memory overwrite occurs when a second or subsequent results file is written. This will often lead to a vertex coordinate being overwritten and will normally lead to a large spike in residuals, but sometimes leads to problems being reported with mesh quality. This defect has been present for several releases.

2) If the specified rotational offset is applied to a stationary domain, then a defect which was introduced in release 10.0 causes the solver to stop with the error listed in symptom (a) above.

3) If the specified rotational offset is applied to a rotating domain, then the expert parameter ha

Q. Why has the "ANSYS Multiphysics CFX-Flo" license been replaced by "ANSYS
Multiphysics 11.0". Has any functionality is been removed
with this switch?

A. If you are running Version 11.0, the answer is that no functionality is removed. At Version 11.0, customers no longer need the ACFX_FLOTRAN_UPGRADE feature (the CFX-Flo part). However, if the customer wishes to continue to run prior versions, CFX will need the additional feature.

To model a circuit-fed coil using SOLID97, we have to choose the AX,AY,AZ,CURR,EMF option. This option needs real constants, including CARE (coil cross-sectional area), VOLU (volume of the modeled conductor), and DIRX, DIRY, DIRZ (unit vectors that describe the direction of current flow), etc. How do I determine the real constants of circuit-fed torus stranded-coils using SOLID97,3, especially the CARE item?

See the attached model of a stranded toroidal air coil using SOLID97. The coil was divided into multiple sectors, each having unique real constants for fill factor and cross section area. The...

Class 3 Error

SYMPTOM:
A transient rotor-stator case run in parallel, when two domains have different pitches, may behave oddly. Symptoms include failing in CFX Release 10.0 or Release 11.0, when the case previously ran without problems in CFX-5.7.1, failing when the number of passages is changed or failing when the physical models are simplified.

PROBLEM:
In ANSYS CFX Release 10.0, dynamic ordering of the boundary faces on the GGI interface sides was introduced in order to allow the support of non-overlap conditions. The calculated rotation matrix does not take proper account of this re-ordering and is therefore incorrect, which leads to problems when the two domains have different pitches. The exact behaviour depends on the partitioning

Q. I am using the PLANE67 element in ANSYS and have achieved a solution in steady state. However, when I try to get the same result with the transient algorithm, the case immediately diverges. What can I do about it?

A. The fault lies in the value of THETA on the TINTP command. The value of 0.5, corresponding to the Crank-Nicholson approach to transients, is not stable for this problem. Set the value to 1.0, corresponding to a backward difference approach, with the command TINTP,,,,1.0.

SYMPTOM:
On Windows 64bit, CFX-Pre crashes when creating a domain interface at a fluid-solid interface in a model including radiation with the error:

Operation failed. Insufficient memory.

This is due to incorrect logic in the code leading to a memory access violation.

SYMPTOM:
When setting up a model in CFX-Pre with the External Coupling set to ANSYS Multifield or ANSYS Multifield via Prep7, the maximum number of iterations in a steady-state calculation is defaulted to 100, and the maximum number of coefficient loops in a transient case is defaulted to 10. Both of these numbers should have defaults of 3.

This is due to the default values specification not using information about the physical model.

PROBLEM:
This is due to a change in the CCL required for CFX 11, and the CCL update mechanism not working correctly.

WORKAROUND:<br>Import the case into CFX-Pre 11 and write a new def file.<br><br>FIXED IN:<br>ANSYS CFX Release 11.0 Update 1.

SYMPTOM:
If a case set up in CFX 10 with Molar Mass set in Mixture Properties is read into CFX Pre 11, one gets an error like:

The parameter "Molar Mass" is present in the object "/LIBRARY/MATERIAL:Permeating Mixture/MIXTURE PROPERTIES/EQUATION OF STATE" but it is not physically valid.

Anologously, if one tries to set up a case in CFX 11, it is not possible to set the Molar Mass on the Mixture Properties tab, and CFX-Pre gives the error:

ERROR
CCL validation failed with message:

SYMPTOM:
CFX-Pre does not allow the user to set a porous-solid domain interface to be 1-1 even though the Solver allows this. This means that the user cannot easily set up a case with a multiphase porous domain and a conducting solid domain.

This is due to CFX-Pre being unaware of a Solver improvement.

SYMPTOM:
Exporting a multiple rotating domain case with several different axes of rotation, which are not defined in the same coordinate frame as the stationary domain, causes the axes to be wrongly oriented and thus the domains can appear to rotate incorrectly or in some cases appear not to be in the correct position.

PROBLEM:
This is due to the export code incorrectly calculating the effect of rotation.

SYMPTOM:
If ANSYS CFX-11.0 Update 1 is installed as well as standard CFX-11.0, then, when running the ANSYS CFX-11.0 Update 1 Solver with a res file from the ANSYS CFX-11.0 Solver as the definition file, the ANSYS CFX-11.0 executable is used in error. If the res file is read into CFX-Pre, and a new def file is written, then this problem also happens.

PROBLEM:
