Why if I am using the GUI to apply pressure loads in either ANSYS Release 7.1 or ANSYS Release 8.0,
are the pressure loads to elements or nodes not applied correctly.

There are two Class 3 errors that apply to this problem. Class3 2003-17 describes the behavior in Release 7.1
which is corrected in Release 8.0 and Class3 2004-06 applies to Release 8.0 and is corrected in Release 8.1. See
the Class3 error reports in the ANSYS Customer Portal for complete details and any updates.

The description for 2003-17 is:

Pressure loads (PRES label of the SFE command) are not applied to an element when using picking via the GUI to
apply the loads. A command echo is given and the command is written to the log file. However, listing the loads
(through the SFELIST command) and plotting the surface load symbols show that no load has been applied.

and the suggested user action is:

Instead of using the element picker, apply the loading to an element component or current selected set.

The description for 2004-06 is:

When using the ANSYS GUI to apply a structural pressure load on elements, nodes, element components, or
node components, the program selects all components in the model by issuing a CMSEL,ALL. Because of this:

If element / node components are present in a model AND you use "Pick All" in the selection dialog to apply
structural pressure, then the pressure may be applied to unintended portions of the model when using the
below GUI paths.

If components are present in the model, the select status of entities will change subsequent to using the
below GUI paths.

GUI Paths:

Preprocessor > Loads > Define Loads> Apply> Structural>Presssure> On Nodes
Preprocessor > Loads > Define Loads> Apply> Structural>Presssure> On Node Components
Preprocessor > Loads > Define Loads> Apply> Structural>Presssure> On Elements
Preprocessor > Loads > Define Loads> Apply> Structural>Presssure> On Element Components
Solution > Loads > Define Loads> Apply>Structural>Presssure> On Nodes
Solution > Loads > Define Loads> Apply> Structural>Presssure> On Node Components
Solution > Loads > Define Loads> Apply> Structural>Presssure> On Elements
Solution > Loads > Define Loads> Apply> Structural>Presssure> On Element Components

and the suggested user action is:

Avoid using "Pick All" button when applying structural pressure or use solid model boundary conditions.
