FLEX -6 "No port number in license file and license service does not exist (flexlm Error -6)"


SOLUTION - Applies to Ansoft products

CAUSE
There is a defect in Ansoft installation process, when user clicks button to examine port configuration but does not making any changes, it saves it as port "0" in redirect.lic.

Faulty Example:
SERVER SJO7JS0 ANY 0
USE_SERVER

Correct Example:
SERVER SJO7JS0 ANY
USE_SERVER

Correct Example, Static (custom) Port:
SERVER SJO7JS0 ANY 27000
USE_SERVER

Use a basic text editor such as Notepad or Vi to open the file redirect.lic (see below for locations)
At the end of the first line, is there a 0? Delete it or Change it to the correct port if a custom port has been specified on the server (usually not the case).


Current default directories:
Windows c:Program FilesAnsoftadmin
Windows 64 c:Program Files(x86)Ansoftadmin on 64-bit machines
Legacy Ansoft is in c:ansoftadmin
Linux ../admin

Note: In the future, new installations will be in
c:Program FilesAnsoft for both x32 and x64 machines.

NOTE: On Windows Vista, 7, and newer versions of Windows, you may need to save the file to desktop and then copy it over to proper location due to more strict Windows security implementations.
