How to clear the error:
'GuiOperation Exit' threw exception during Invoke: Exception of type 'Ansys.Utilities.Registry.RegistryException' was thrown.

Close down all ANSYS applications. Go to Start > Run and enter %APPDATA%, click OK. Go into the Ansys folder. Rename v130 to v130.old. (Or v121, v120, etc...) This will hide all the Workbench configuration files. The next time Workbench is started a fresh set of configuration files will be generated. It is also important to have a supported graphics card and updated driver.
