ANSYS Workbench QA Notice

ERROR NO: QA WB2012-01

Keywords:
MECHDB MSHDB DATABASE LOSS UNIT SYSTEM FOR GEOMETRY

Description of Error:
Under some circumstances, the database for a Mechanical or Mesh system (e.g., SYS.mechdb and SYS.mshdb, respectively) can become permanently damaged upon saving a Workbench Project file. A damaged database will display an unusual file size of 20KB. Attempts to open or edit it will yield errors such as:

"Unable to open file . Unable set unit system for geometry"
"Unable to set generate input file. Unable to get environment"
"Unable to obtain linked environment IDs. Unable to get model"

Typical GUI Path(s):
The corruption can occur when the user closes the Mechanical/Mesh Editor window and shortly thereafter saves the Workbench project.

An example of this workflow is to click the "x" button on the upper-right corner of the window to close the Editor and then click the Save button (or CTRL+S) on the toolbar within the Workbench Project Schematic.

Other Comments:
The critical period after closing the Mechanical/Mesh Editor has been confirmed to be at least one second but may be longer.

First Incorrect Version:
Release 14.0

Corrected In:
Release 14.5

Suggested User Action For Running on Uncorrected Version:
If the mechdb or mshdb has already been corrupted, nothing can be done to recover the data. To prevent the error, either save the project before closing the editors or disable the options to Pre-Load the Mechanical and Mesh Editors in Workbench via:

Tools > Options > Mechanical > Pre-Load the Mechanical Editor
Tools > Options > Meshing > Pre-Load the Meshing Editor
