Will ANSYS run with Windows XP SP 2?

Windows XP Service Pack 2 was recently released to the general public. Microsoft states: "This update contains major security improvements designed to provide better protection against hackers, viruses, and worms. Windows XP SP2 also improves the manageability of the security features in Windows XP and provides more and better information to help users make decisions that may potentially affect their security and privacy. Because of these significant improvements, Microsoft views Windows XP SP2 as an essential security update and is therefore distributing it as a "critical update" via Windows Update (WU) and the Automatic Updates (AU) delivery mechanism in Windows. Microsoft strongly urges customers with Windows XP and Windows XP Service Pack 1-based systems to update to Windows XP SP2 as soon as possible (www.microsoft.com )."

However, Ansys is concerned with the release of XP Service Pack 2 and what repercussions it may have on Ansys/Workbench or Ansys development applications and tools. Ansys is working with Development and Testing to conclude whether or not XP SP2 will conflict with any Ansys applications. ANSYS would recommend that all End Users hold off installing XP Service Pack 2 until further notice.

Preliminary testing of ANSYS 8.1 revealed that a Windows Security Alert message appears when starting ANSYS. This alert states that Windows Firewall has blocked some features of the program. Users should select the "Unblock" option on this alert to allow ANSYS to run.
