I requested a 'm of 3000, yet the run did not terminate due to insufficient memory on a 32-bit PC. Why doesn't ANSYS report insufficient memory and terminate for 'm 3000? What memory allocation is actually used in this case?

On 32-bit systems the largest -m value that is allowed is 2000. Above that, you are overflowing the integer value used to store the length of the workspace memory. When the integer overflows it turns negative and ANSYS catches this since we cannot have a negative memory length. We set it to the default -m value, in this case that would be 512.
