I recently had a temporary ANSYS license file from you for one of my client machines while our usual license server was out of action. Now the usual license server is up and running again and I want to switch the client machine which has been acting as a temporary license server back to being a client machine using the ANSYS licensing on the usual license server. How do I do this?

You should do the following:

If the client machine which has been acting as a temporary license server is a UNIX / Linux platform:

1) Start the ANSYS License Manager on this machine (run the program /.../shared_files/licensing/lic_admin/anslic_admin where /.../ is the full path of the software installation).

2) Stop the ANSYS license daemon which is currently running on this machine using the Stop the License Manager button of the ANSYS License Manager. Use the ps command to check that the ansyslmd.exe process is no longer running after this. If it is use the kill command to remove it.

3) Delete the license.dat file (the temporary license server one) from the directory /.../shared_files/licensing.

4) Amend ansyslmd.ini in the same directory to read SERVER=1055@usual_license_server_host_name rather than SERVER=1055@temporary_license_server_host_name.

If the client machine which has been acting as a temporary license server is a Windows platform:

1) Start the ANSYS License Manager on this machine (select Start > Programs > ANSYS FLEXlm License Manager > ANSLIC_ADMIN Utility).

2) Stop the ANSYS license daemon which is currently running on this machine using the Stop the License Manager button of the ANSYS License Manager. Use the Processes tab on the Task Manager to make sure that ansyslmd.exe is no longer running after this. If it is highlight the process and use the End Process button to remove it.

3) Delete the license.dat file (the temporary license server one) from the directory c:Program FilesAnsys IncShared FilesLicensing (or the equivalent directory if you did not use the default directory during installation).

4) Amend ansyslmd.ini in the same directory to read SERVER=1055@usual_license_server_host_name rather than SERVER=1055@temporary_license_server_host_name.
