How can I borrow a license file for a laptop? The license keys in the license file on the license server have the BORROW=nnn option (nnn is the maximum number of hours that licenses can be borrowed for) included.

You should proceed as follows:

1) Make sure that you have at least version 9.0 of the ANSYS FLEXlm License Manager installed on the laptop - earlier versions do not support the BORROW Utility.

2) With the laptop connected to the same network as the license server start the ANSYS license manager on the laptop using Start > Programs > ANSYS FLEXlm License Manager > ANSLIC_ADMIN Utility and select the button "Run the ANSYS Borrow Utility".

3) On the BORROW tab set the date you want to "borrow" the license till and set the time if you want to. The Update Delay field allows you to set an amount of time in seconds after a date/time selection is made before the list of borrowable licenses will update. You can update the list immediately by pressing the Update delay button.

4) Select the products that you want to borrow for that period and then click the Borrow button.

FLEXlm writes the borrowed keys to the laptop registry, under the HKEY_CURRENT_USERS registry key, so the user must log back in using the same account to use the borrowed licenses when the laptop is off the network.

To return the licenses, connect the laptop to the network and then select the "Run the ANSYS BORROW Utility" on the ANSYS License Manager and select the Return tab. click the Return button to return the keys.
