Can I use a tapered section to modal a coil spring?

We require that the beam end stations lie on a line between the centroid of the two sections defining the taper (Re: Section 16.3.4 of the Structural Analysis Guide.) It does not seem practical to use tapered sections on any curved beam, let alone a coil spring. |
