Evaluating mass flow on an internal mesh region may result in a much too small value?

The sign of the massflow on a mesh face is defined by the face normal. When the face normals are misoriented then the integral value of the massflows will show a wrong value. Please visualize the face normals on the internal mesh region and you will probably see different face orientations. The faces can be re-oriented in the mesher. In ICEM CFD this is done by the option Mesh > Edit Mesh > ReOrientMesh. |
