Making an exact duplicate of my model in another region of space reduced the initial contact stiffnesses reported by the CNCHECK,DETAILS command. Why?

The algorithm that calculates the initial contact stiffness for the 17X elements considers the model size. As the model gets larger, it becomes more difficult to solve due to the increase in DOFs, so the contact algorithm reduces the initial contact stiffness to compensate, making the contact convergence easier. However, it is always the responsibility of the analyst to modify the contact stiffness, mesh size, etc, to see how they impact the results in order to know if the default values are sufficiently accurate.
