Are there any examples that show how to enter orthotropic wood material data for both implicit and explicit shell elements and how the Poisson's ratios are handled?

Yes, please see the attached input file created in ANSYS 11.0 SP1 for both SHELL181 (ANSYS implicit) and SHELL163 (ANSYS LS-DYNA explicit) elements.

Wood property data from the FPL Wood Handbook is shown to be in the major Poisson's ratio form and internally converted by the ANSYS program into the minor form, which is used by both ANSYS and ANSYS LS-DYNA to conduct the analyses. The results for a plate in tension and bending are very similar for the two codes, and comments in the input file indicate why there are some differences in the results.
