Q: I am an academic customer running CFX 11 SP1 on a 64-bit Linux cluster. I have a license for the Academic Research product.

When trying to run the CFX solver in parallel as part of an FSI problem the solver fails with the following error message:

However the CFX solver can successfully be run in parallel when NOT part of an FSI run.

A: The reason you are not able to run an FSI analysis with CFX in parallel is actually due to a known issue in our software.

There is a QA defect (63659) associated with the Academic Research product that prevents the CFX solver from using the parallel option when used as part of an FSI run.

The solution is to give the customer the Academic Associate level product using an SPF with the following business justification:

Business Justification: This is SPF is required due to the severe QA defect 63659 relating to the ANSYS Academic Research. The defect prevents the MFX solver from making use of CFX parallel. The work around is to issue them a new license key that:

1) Moves them from ANSYS Academic Research to ANSYS Academic Associate, and
2) Moves them from ANSYS Academic CFD HPC to the commercial CFX Parallel license keys.

This defect will be corrected at release 12.0.
