Workbench Interaction with Pro/Engineer and NX

What is happening behind the scenes when ANSYS Workbench R12.0 is installed across a network along with Pro/ENGINEER and NX?

Question: What is happening behind the scenes when ANSYS Workbench R12.0 is installed across a network along with Pro/ENGINEER and NX?

Answer: ANSYS Workbench 12.0 looks at several files and environment variables for Pro/ENGINEER and NX on a network installation.

First, navigate to Start > ANSYS 12.0 > Utilities > CAD Configuration Manager to see where the program will look for the Pro/ENGINEER and NX programs. These entries are set by default based on settings you defined during the installation process. However, you can modify these settings in this panel.

The following environment variables will be set into the `System variables` when the installation is performed by an Administrative user, otherwise they will be available in `User variables` to the installing user:

PROE_START_CMD

UGII_CUSTOM_DIRECTORY_FILE

The `custom_dirs.dat` file is written at program startup in the place specified in Unigraphics Custom Directory Filename in the `CAD Configuration Manager` panel.

The `config.pro` file is written into %HOME%, but if that is not accessible it will be created/amended in %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%, and will be read by the Pro/ENGINEER program to turn on the menu.

Neither NX nor Pro/ENGINEER install points are written into at all by ANSYS Workbench 12.0.
