When disconnected from the Network Licensing Stops Working

DELL laptops have a configuration enabled that tells the computer, while it is running on battery, to shutdown the Integrated Network Card (NIC) when the laptop is unplugged from an AC outlet. If you own another manufacturers laptop please check with the vendor for this available option.

You will notice this when you run ipconfig /all from a Command Prompt and only get back the wireless ethernet address. Since ANSYS bases its licensing on the Host ID of the Integrated NIC ANSYS applications will stop working if the laptop is unplugged from a power source unless you disable the Dell configuration.

To disable this option:

1.Open up Control Panel
2.Select Administrative Tools
3.Select Computer Management
4.Go to Device Manager
5.Highlight the Network Adapter
6.Go to the Power Management tab
7.Uncheck the box Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power
