How do I prepare a Fluent model for 1D coupling at sudden area changes ?

When doing 1D coupling with Fluent, the area at the coupled boundary location between Fluent and the 1D code may be different (e.g. exhaust header pipes).

The following mistake is sometimes made - the zones named WALL-INLET and INLET are combined and defined as a single fluid zone which is then used as a coupled boundary. This is not correct as the zone named WALL-INLET does not have flow through it. Only the zone named INLET is available for flow and this should be defined as the coupled boundary zone. Zone WALL-INLET should be defined as a wall zone.
